Biological Filtration is not just a matter of Specific Surface Area. Biological Filtration efficiency also depends upon correct void space and porosity in the media. Although Biofilters remove Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate, very few Biofilters remove nitrates effectively and none as effectively as BIOHOME. Removing Nitrate need not be expensive and will allow you to maintain your water quality longer between changes.
