PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
* Joined the aquaculture industry in January 1995. after completion of Masters Degree.
* Main species of culture has been Grass Shrimp, Penaeus monodon and Indian Prawn, P. indicus
* Well experienced in the culture systems commonly practised in India - extensive, modified extensive, semi-intensive and intensive - with stocking densities ranging from 5 pcs/m2 to 40 pcs/m2
* Well experienced in stocking and acclimatisation techniques and maintenance of nurseries before
release into grow-out systems.
* Thorough knowledge and understanding of the diurnal variations of chemical parameters such as
dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity, etc. and their effects on aquatic organisms. Experienced in the
monitoring techniques of these parameters and their control to maintain optimum conditions
for good growth.
* Good knowledge and experience about feeding practices and changing patterns in feed rationing
with regard to biomass and average daily growth rates.
* Familiar with the diseases and their manifestations in fish and shrimp and wide ranging
experience in preventive and curative measures for shrimp diseases. Also familiar with the use of
various antibiotics, chemicals and immuno-stimulants to contain disease outbreaks.
* Wide experience in routine sampling methods for average body weight (ABW), population/survival
and disease monitoring, and maintenance of charts and records for reference, comparison
and calculations.
* Familiar with harvesting techniques such as drag-netting, bag-netting and cast-netting depending
on the type of culture system and water body. Also well conversant with post-harvesting procedures.
* Familiar with the operation of different mechanical and electrical devices for maintaining
optimum aquatic environmental conditions for the species cultured.
* Well studied in the biology and culture of fin fish such as Tilapia and Sea Bass and certain shell fish
such as oysters and mussels.
* As an aquaculture technician in managerial capacity, have harvested four good crops in the past
two and half years in the company presently employed even during the outbreak of the White Spot
Virus / SEMBV, having successfully used immuno-stimulants besides having taken precautions
such as pre-treated and filtered source water.
* Also familiar with recirculation systems and the basic concept behind them.
CURRENT STATUS
Presently employed as Farm Manager of a 7.0 hectare farm owned by The Cochin Malabar Estates and
Industries Ltd.
